Another Murder in Glover Park

On Wednesday August 5th just prior to 8 pm, Bobby Lee Cannon, age 35 of Southeast DC, was killed with one shot to the face from an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle inside unit #2 of the small brick building at 2500 41st Street NW in Glover Park. Jeremiah Greene, age 21 of Alexandria VA, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder. Nineteen DC Metropolitan Police Department officers plus EMS responded to the scene, there was no use of force, no sign of life, and Cannon was pronounced dead.

Two witnesses plus Greene, and a child were at the building and were interviewed separately. Apparently all five people involved knew each other. The following details are based on the statements of Greene and the witnesses when interviewed onsite by police and do not necessarily represent the facts. Greene admitted to killing Cannon in his explanation of the events, all of which was recorded on police bodycam. One of the witnesses stated that Cannon arrived with his child and was allowed into the apartment but then got into an argument with a woman, supposedly his wife, presumably over a pending divorce. All four of the adults were drinking alcohol prior to the incident. When the argument between Cannon and his wife got physical and Cannon became enraged, Greene stated he went outside to get his gun in one of the witness’ cars. He loaded his Bear Creek Arsenal AR-15 with a 26-cartridge magazine and returned. The wife was swinging a knife at Cannon while one of the witnesses took the child to another room. Greene claimed Cannon grabbed a bicycle rack to use to hit him, and at that point fired one shot at him. The bullet entered Cannon’s cheek and exited the back of his head and he fell. Greene picked up the cartridge casing and returned the gun and the casing to the trunk of the car while waiting at the scene, upon which the police arrived a short time after and arrested Greene. Greene and one of the witnesses had begun concocting a story that a stranger came in and shot Cannon, but then when police arrive and interviewed, they waived their Miranda rights and decided to come clean.

This narrative is based on witness and defendant statements and do not necessarily represent the facts of the case and suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Greene was arraigned in DC Superior Court charged with felony II murder and held without bond until a hearing on August 20th. The weapon was one of three purchased legally by Jeremiah Greene in Virginia within the past year. Greene had a past juvenile charge of carjacking out of state, while Bobby Lee Cannon had a seven-year record of charges for a warrant for a misdemeanor, two charges of felony domestic violence, criminal contempt and felony possession of an illegal firearm. All charges were dismissed except firearm possession in which his sentence was suspended. No jail time for any of it or either of them. Now Bobby Lee is dead, and whatever kind of person he was, his daughter is without a father.

Chris have you had any contact with Frumin's office?? It's a shame our once safe community is ruined by his policies.

Replying to

How do city policies have anything to do with domestic violence of the sort that routinely takes places in all communities, regardless of perceived safety from street crime? If there has been a failure here it is with those in the police force who do not take reports of domestic violence seriously enough.
