Halloween in Glover Park is upon us! More popular here than Christmas, Thanksgiving and National Hug Your Cat Day combined! The disturbing decorations are out and the festivities are planned. Below is a list of activities for you and/or the kids, and right now you can participate in a decorations scavenger hunt for a $50 gift certificate to our very own Rocklands Barebeque in Glover Park.
Decorations Scavenger Hunt
I rode around the neighborhood on my daughter’s bicycle and snapped the photos below of some great Halloween decorations. There were so many nice houses I could not get them all. Here is the contest – the first person to identify the addresses (street name and number) of four of the houses in the slideshow at the bottom wins a $50 gift certificate to Rocklands Barbeque! Try the October special - the Looziana Reuben. David H. is the winner of the contest, he successfully named 4 houses in 45 minutes. The contest is closed.

Trick or Treating
Trick or treating is big in Glover Park because of the compact layout of the neighborhood and easy accessibility to the row houses (a target-rich environment), combined with the relative safety of allowing kids to walk around here after dark. People even drive here from other parts of the city for the experience. Main Street typically is Benton Street from Tunlaw Rd to 40th St, with parallel W Street and Beecher St as very active as well. The connecting perpendicular streets of 38th, Huidekoper, Observatory, 39th St. and 39th Pl., as well as parallel Calvert Street also are active. The hordes of scary candy cravers begin before sunset with the younger kids, so be ready early. This onslaught continues until about an hour after sunset when the frenzy begins to die down.

Stoddert Elementary Halloween Parade
Stoddert Elementary will have its Halloween costume parade on Friday October 31st from 9:00-9:30 at the school at 4001 Calvert Street. The students will parade around the large school block on the sidewalk. Plenty of photo ops.

DC Metro Police Department Second District Trunk or Treat
Glover Park’s DC MPD-2D will have its annual trick (“trunk”) or treating at 2D HQ at 3320 Idaho Avenue on October 31st from 5:00-8:00 pm. They advertise this as a safe haven for the kids, and will have treats, games and community engagement. The event is free.
Department of Parks and Recreation
DPR will host a costume parade and trick or treating at the Friendship Recreation Center at 4500 Van Ness Street from 4:00-4:40 on Friday October 31st. The event is free.
A bit of trivia, and in case you were wondering: National Hug Your Cat Day is June 4th.
David H. guessed 4 of the 19 addresses in the slideshow below and won the $50 gift certificate to Rocklands!
