Wingo's has opened it's doors at 2218 Wisconsin Avenue NW, the former site of Mad Fox Taproom. See prior blog article on Wingo's. The restaurant was packed on Friday night by around 7:30 and they don't even have a sign out front yet! It seems that: inexpensive food + a large menu of popular choices + drink specials + a nice ambience with sit-down service = Glover Park Restaurant Success. Such success has been challenging for restaurants in Glover Park over the past few years, as many have closed their doors due to lack of "butts in the seats" as one restauranteur put it, and a disproportionate demand for lower-margin delivery. Wingo's most likely will have high demand for its delivery service as well, as their Georgetown restaurant was a good example. The Georetown location, closed temporarily due to fire, had a loyal following of Georgetown University students, many of whom live in Glover Park and Burleith and will come now to the Glover Park location. The Wingo's owner does plan to re-open their take-out and delivery restaurant in Georgetown in the near future after the restoration is complete.
