Upcoming Events in Glover Park

Champagne, music, carnival, Tai Chi and a date with your neighborhood cops are on the calendar in the weeks to come in Glover Park. Sign up online where you can and get out and enjoy the events. Check out the calendar here.

Pearson's Wine and Spirits will have its 90th(!) anniversary bash at Old Europe on November 9th from 5-8. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres and Champagne tasting (30-40 types!) and celebrate the end of Prohibition (90 years ago in December). Tickets are $60 online, and I bet they will sell out. After that you will have better luck getting Taylor Swift Eras Tour StubHub resales at 10X face value. After sampling 30-40 wines there will be pillows in the small parking lot next door where you can crash until sunrise. Get your ticket here.

Come to Coffee with a Cop at our local Second District Precinct on Wednesday October 4th from 12-2 at 3320 Idaho Avenue. They need to hear from residents about their crime concerns in the neighborhood and the city so they can pass the info on to those in charge. Crime is way up this year in Glover Park, while city-wide crime is up 28%, and murders are up 36% from last year at this time. I could post how to participate in Handcuffs with a Cop too, though exciting, likely you would not enjoy the outcome. MPD has started doing regular neighborhood walks with residents and the next one for Second District is October 1st at 10:00 am at 3220 Chesapeake Ave in Forest Hills. I'll post when the next one comes to Glover Park.

In Bocca al Lupo rocks the live music regularly, with an upcoming gig by The Mike Scoglio Band on Saturday October 7th at 7:30. He plays music you will recognize through the decades. Then reserve your spot for Laissez Foure with Ken Matthews on October 21st at 7:30. Enjoy some high energy New Orleans style Dixie Jazz. Make your reservation here. They only ask for a $5 cover, better than any you'll find in DC for live music. Grab a table or a bar seat and a great Roman style pizza.

You don't need to drive out of town to state fairs - we have our own carnival right here in Glover Park. The Stoddert Elementary Fall Festival is October 15th from 11-4. A fun family event with bounce houses, pumpkin crafts, carnival-style games and food, face-painting, a Halloween costume swap, live music, the Surfside food truck, bake sale, cotton candy, popcorn and more! No alcohol here, but you can get a good year and varietal apple juice most likely. They are encouraging you to buy your wristband or tickets online here for a saving of money and time. They still need volunteer help to set up, clean up and supervise events so sign up here to volunteer.

Most Parks and Rec events for the Fall are booked already, though seniors (55+) still can take advantage of free Tai Chi classes at Guy Mason by signing up here. Classes are weekly on Friday from 3-4 until November 17th.
